Weekends Are For Movies

I love long weekends. I actually have time for myself; to watch the movies I haven’t had time to catch in the cinemas to prevent the list from growing endlessly. This weekend, I watched four.

In time was pretty good, who would have thought that time was eventually used as currency. Its true time is currency now but to literally become one… Wow.! Blew me off completely to have to be racing against time. At least when you’re cashless you’ll be able to live for a few days without it, time ticks seconds away.

In Time

Margin call was a little too heavy for the weekend but it is the eyes to the start of a financial crisis. I must say I’ve always wondered how a financial crisis starts and this answers my questions if it was true.

Margin Call

I don’t know how she does it simply reaffirms my amazement with those who could juggle, kids, husband, a full time job and a monstrous mother in law.

I Don't Know How She Does It

The plot for abduction is quite exciting. Though I wish the ending had been different; that the father had a face.

Abduction

I’m not in the mood for Tintin yet but I will watch it someday. In the mood only for chick flicks lately. Such that I watched Burlesque for the 4th time (I think) and Sex and the City movie I and II 3rd time each… Yes I know I’m crazy but I can forgiven cause 2011 is ending…

The Box

As I walked home, a lady carrying a box caught my eye. My mind strayed to the time I had to carry a box for bestie’s 21st. My box was a gift box. Hers was simply an A4 paper box. I turned to look at her and saw her eyes totally red.

This is the scary world. I couldn’t help but wondered if that was after a sack or a breakup. I didn’t want my mind on that for too long because it would be all too negative for my life which is in a much needed positiveness.

Coincidentally, whilst I am writing this, the new movie I was watching; Morning Glory talked about the main being sacked.

Along the same line, when I decided to title this entry The Box, it hit me that I had recently watched a horror movie with the same name. Scary piece of movie I’ve watched in the longest time! It was an interesting plot though. Go check it out if you have a tougher heart than I do.

Cold Turkey

I’m currently addicted to 2 Korean dramas; New Tales of Gisaeng (above) and Royal Family (below) and I wished they had finished running so that I do not have to be left hanging like I’m in need of some cocaine.

Burlesque

Can’t quite recall where I saw the trailer that made me want to watch this movie, maybe I didn’t. It could just be the poster that attracted me. How it is symmetrical yet asymmetrical, and it is in the colour my brain is currently tuned to for detection of sophistication – black & white with a  tinge of pink (or any other colour in my dressing) to make the otherwise monotonous presentation stands out.

My initial plan was to get the Christina-Aguilera-crazy-Serena to go with me. I know she’d not reject but turns out, LI wanted to watch it too so I went along, yes on a Monday! We had our cheese hotdog (which I must say is quite good) whilst watching the film relieving the good ole secondary-after-school days.

In the film, Christina Aguilera’s vocal was impressive; something I had ignored because I was a Britney fan. Her dance steps made me want to ooze similar sex appeal if anyone is willing to teach. Not funny, I’m perfectly serious. And to top it up (like any other moral of the story) I made a silent promise to myself at the end of the film to strive for that intensity in my passion. With that I’m sure to be able to live my big dreams.

Meanwhile, I’m going to try find the soundtrack for this…

康熙来了!

Lately, the adrenaline has become its climb up in my body as the days to the exams shorten to a point of nervousness and anxiety.

I’ve not been able to sleep properly cause each sleep would bring me through a journey of greater anxiety. The constant thoughts about not having finished studying worries me though I know getting less sleep is definitely going to slow my pace down because the  brains would fail functioning. Determination has been able to push my body way beyond its limits with the power naps in between.

The constant solace I seek is watching this Taiwanese variety show which never fails to make me laugh. Seriously. All the lame things they can come up with. I always wondered if I’d have a chance to be on the set. I do know my friends who went to Taiwan went on the set of 我猜 and had loads of fun; maybe I should give it a try if I ever make it to Taiwan. Sigh. Someone please go with me to Taiwan!!! Anyway, I happened to stumbled upon the first few episodes of 康熙 filmed back in 2004 where an interview was conducted with the presidency candidate and his family. The types of questions that the hosts desire to ask and how they tried so hard to go about it; I like the recent episode with Andy Lau in it too. HE-IS-HOT! S-T-I-L-L. I secretly wondered if I had the guts in S’s to throw all caution to the wind with each time she could cling herself to each hot guests on her show. Even after marriage. I love how 蔡康永’s wit, coupled with 小S’s guts coupled together and creating a certain chemistry I thought irreplaceable. Too awesome. You should go check it out too!

Disunion.

Korean Drama - I Am Legend

I am currently watching a Korean drama I Am Legend into its 8th episode. Yesterday it was a whole 2 episodes of the main character finding out who exactly is the third party in the marriage, how she went about trying to find evidence to succeed in her divorce and the trial. Some really raw nerves here as words on papers come to live.

She found evidence that was sufficient to allow her to win the case; a video recording of her husband behaving intimately with the the 3rd party, who happens to be the representing lawyer of her husband in this divorce. Instead of using it to her advantage,  she played a video of the time they were newly wed and expecting a child. There was so much love even I felt it. He teared when he looked at the video recording. The character did her closing by saying that all she had hoped for in starting the proceedings is “I’m sorry” for all the hurt he caused her. She was apologetic for the hurt she in turn caused the person she ever loved by starting the proceedings (because he is someone of reputation). She didn’t get any alimony in the end, but she definitely made the husband guilty of what he had turned out to be over the years.

My gut tells me that there must be occasions when couples relieve those happy times they shared; those times when they truly loved each other, those times that affirmed the reason they got married whether its through a video made previously or to go back to doing the things they used to do together during the marriage before love starts to fade and anger and hatre takes its place.

My parents’ marriage, especially with my mom as testimony, has taught me that for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to trust, to forgive and forget, to love and to cherish until death do them part. I secretly hope to emulate them in my own marriage.

Ok N, stop dreaming!

Omnipotent Indoctrination

We grow up with the common mind set that Cinderella, Beauty, Snow White and all other childhood story characters lived happily ever after. After all adults are of the notion, possibly indoctrinated by childhood clinical specialist, that kids should not be “educated” so early in their lives that life is not that smooth sailing and happy.

Perhaps, it had been such an excellent brain washing therapy that we all grow up feeling unsatisfied if the movies didn’t have happy endings or endings that doesn’t give a proper conclusion.

Life has made me sceptical about happy endings so unless I need to be disillusioned I wouldn’t mind shows without proper endings. Well of course one could argue that the purpose of the box office’s presence is to give everyone the escapade they need from the confinements of real life.

All these were sparked from the furor Inception created with its ending; whether the top did stop spinning. I chose not to comment, simply because this movie is awesome as it is, enough to keep one’s mind running throughout the movie; especially in my case when I watched the past midnight show and would have fallen asleep otherwise. After all, ratherly aptly put by a movie reviewer: our happiness is not ultimately contingent on our knowledge of our world being fake or real.

Salt, further iterated by the Chinese-Taiwanese production I’ve been following made me come to the realisation that indoctrination is a power tool. Brainwash whatever you want to your followers and they will do your bidding, your only risk is when emotions are involved. In fact, brainwashing or the better related sibling – propaganda, has been a shadow in our lives. If you read history, you’d know of how Hitler, Stalin utilises this tool. Even in our daily lives, adverts are testimony to indoctrination, brainwashing, propaganda, you name it how you like it…

Some food for thought, any chance of ever evading this?
