Pardon Me, Yes I’m At It Again!

Miraculously, I found an easy solution to my iPHone vs BB war.

I have intentions to get Jensen to grab the new iPad for me when it releases in the US so why do I have to get an iPhone which simply serves its mobile function and portable camera like a bb?

But after talking to Andy about it.. Looks like its for the rich and impractical people. Damn! How how how!?

At It Again!

Yesterday I planned never to use an iphone again cause the EVERYONE in the carriage I was in was using an iphone except for one or two. This morning, on the lift up to work, I thought of all the beauty of an iphone. How how how!?! When is this dilemma ever going to stop?

Goog-Pedia

I am absolutely amused at the power of Google and Wikipedia. Truly.

I was getting really tired of studying, I seriously wonder how anyone can work AND study at the same time, when I decided to google departmental stores in the US. This link came up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_department_stores_by_country. Even Singapore is included rather correctly! Gosh!

What amused me even more is that US has a link of their own; then again its not surprising because its a huge country. Here goes for your little weekend entertainment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_department_stores_of_the_United_States

Big Is Beautiful

Welcoming My 27" iMac!

It is a very huge and heavy baby and it has set me back to eating bread for 3 months, ok I am kidding on that; it would have happened in the UK but not in Singapore.

I have eyed the 27″ iMac for the longest time. Desktop because I no longer need something mobile and according to my computer expert friends, is definitely (I hope) more durable than a laptop. Deep within, I was actually hoping to iPad if I ever meet with the problem of mobility, shall not digress further. I have been a strong believer that big is beautiful, with the exception of the main and I stress main body structure. I have been really satisfied with it, if only the internet connection had been more stable. I swear mio tv is driving me up the walls!

Welcome home Tigbit!

I’m A Convert

Last night, I found sometime to make my iMac an individual of substances besides the beauty. I, unfortunately, have yet to find a suitable name for it yet.

I downloaded firefox, msn (eww! it looked like the msn I used when I was in secondary school, very outdated!), skype, made the access to my emails synchronised, programmed my gchat on iChat, attempted to watch something from tudou but failed. I managed to stream youtube and thoroughly enjoyed the excellent sound and visual experience. I even played a game of rubbish chess against my Mac (i.e. I made moves without thinking at all).

With the weekend around the corner, I shall attempt to upload all my songs onto itunes, photos on iphotos, download quicktime player, find a microsoft for mac and try tudou again! :)

When is your turn?

Best News For The Day!

I received a text just a few minutes ago and I just had to stop blogging about Vogue and drop a line or two here. The text reads:

Daddy
Yr computer is here

YES! YES! YES! My 27″ iMac is here! After all the pain I’ve gone through. That’s why I’ve never been a true fan of online purchase unless I really have to. I remain staunch to only buying things online (at a discount) after I’ve seen the item in store.

I purchased 3 items online; the iMac, Applecare and the iTouch that comes free with it. The day after my purchase, I received an email that said my credit card was rejected. I panicked, so I went down to the bank and checked. Bank confirmed that they had earmarked the purchase sum for Apple so I emailed them. The same afternoon, the same email came back. I sent them another email. Yes I’m not very patient. No reply.

The next morning, the same rejection email came back. Well, I haven’t shared the story of my Alexa but when I do, you’d know that the more I’m rejected, the more I refuse to leave all to nature’s course and would take matters into my own hands. Anyway, I sent a third email at the same time engaged J to call Apple Store Payment Department. He was on it for an hour each (because I gave him two numbers). No one picked up.

I got a third number and got him to call on the second day after my purchase. He waited for 45 minutes and gave up. It is quite irritating to listen to crap music and someone thanking you for your patience at 2 minute intervals. On the same day, I called the Sales Department instead. I knew they will pick it up, and rather promptly at that because they definitely want to confirm as many Apple products sales as possible. True to my words, I only waited 10 minutes. The guy I spoke to convinced me that it was my bank’s problem so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and called the bank again. Bank told me, Apple had successfully authorised the purchase sum initially but had gone on to seek authorisation for the same sum again. The subsequent authorisations were rejected because of insufficient funds.

Now here, I’d like to share a habit I’ve cultivated. I only put in a sum slightly more than the item I’m buying online into the bank account because I was afraid I’d be charged extra charges.

Ever thankful for the Hari Raya Puasa Holidays, I had the whole day to call Apple. I called the Payment team, no one picked up. I held the phone at a record time of 2 hours! Yes, 2 hours. I decided that even if I were to hold the phone for 5 years, no one would pick up. I seriously suspect that no one operates the Payment department at all. I called the dude I spoke to the day before, he was getting less patient with me cause I was clearly very frustrated. I decided to try someone else and the guy linked me to customer service.

I spoke to an Amy Chan and before I begin my rants, I’d like to say: THANK YOU AMY! Amy has been nice enough to figure out the problem; that the computer auto-generates authorisation for another sum. She had wanted to get the Payment team to call me yesterday but I insisted I wanted to have a peace of mind over the weekend and for her to settle the problem on that day. She managed and shipment of the item was set for yesterday. Expected day of delivery should have been tomorrow which kept me excited the whole day. Turns out… It was a better surprise!

I’ll update once I get home and have inspected my goods. In love and there’s no turning back…

JULS! I CAN FINALLY WEBCAM YOU!

Patience Is A Virtue

I wonder why we were taught: patience is a virtue? Why is patience a virtue? What is wrong with being impatient? Who “saintly” said: patience must be a virtue? How would impatience make us immoral?

This morning, I came across this when I was reading and that linked me back to an incident yesterday. It was the last day of comex and being relatively demophobic, more so for disorganised crowd, I get easily annoyed.

I was tasked, being the free person; free as in with nothing urgent to do, to get the laser printer for my brother who needs it to print his readings. There, I waived through the DISORGANISED crowd to get from HP to Brother which were located at extreme opposite ends of the convention centre. Disgusting! How the fliers covered the floors that make walking difficult given its texture.

I finally made the rational choice of a 98 bucks Brother monochrome laser printer and got a spare toner at 70 bucks for 2.6k print capacity. That’s a whole 50 bucks cheaper than expected.

On the way back, I made a record wait of nearly 40 minutes for the lift. In the end, I decide to stop being civilised and pushed my way through with my huge bulk when the lift came. I was annoyed, very annoyed because those without any shopping could have, should have used the escalator to head down or up. Instead, they took up 80% of the lift space hence only allowing those with big bulky items to enter one at a time. At one point, I saw a guy with a 42 inch tv attempt to take the flight of stairs down. I seriously hope he doesn’t crash his tv along the way cause the route he chose meant at least 8 flights of stairs down. Those inconsiderate fools ought to be shot I swear!

At the cab stand, the wait was shorter. I’m thankful the cab driver came down to help me with my load. :) From the time I entered the exhibition till the time I left, its about 2.5 hours and it was all because, those who shouldn’t take the lift took the lift, those who didn’t want to buy anything stood looking at any possible demonstration for the thrill of “wasting” their Sunday evening preventing crowds from moving, all the fliers not thrown into the bin but on the floor…

How can patience be a virtue when littering and being considerate should be a more important virtue that one should have in the first place yet not demonstrate?

An Apple Everyday Keeps Your Troubles At Bay

iMac

Been thinking of getting this for the longest time. I need a computer to call my own after the VAIO drowned and went into coma. CPR at the Sony Centre didn’t help. Surgery was out of the question since it would cost more than getting a new one all together. I’ve not checked on it since it went into the intensive care unit all mummified. Its likely to be comatosed still. After all that ‘scary’ experiences with laptops, I’ve decided maybe a desktop would be more stable. After all, I no longer have to bring a laptop anywhere I go. Desk tops are also built with faster speed (not a tech geek and definitely not trying to be one). Most importantly, the 27″ iMac is such a beauty to look at and it will serve me VERY well when I watch movies online. Big is indeed beautiful to me.

MacBook Pro

That 13″ my brother has been bringing around with him makes me wish I can get this one too! I imagine myself sitting at Starbucks with a cuppa and doing my work on it. Not that I ever can produce a mistake-free piece of work when I’m distracted; sitting at Starbucks is all about people watching imo. I’ve learnt my lesson when my E-maths teacher revealed that I must have been doing something when drawing that graph cause it definitely wasn’t a piece of work I’m capable of producing. I was in denial than but truth is, I was actually peering out of the window to find out what was going on downstairs. Ok, back to the Pro, I’ve always been a strong believer of “big is beautiful” so having a 13″ is convenient but what is going to happen to all my movies? A 17″ would be ridiculously heavy to lug around and I am definitely laptop-phobic. Even my friends emphasise the importance of mobility but it is really that essential for me now that I’m working?

Verdict: I’m swaying rather bias-ly towards the iMac.

iPod Nano

The iMac I intend to buy will come with a iPod Shuffle, Nano or iTouch. The coloured nano is shouting out to me I feel the pain in not bringing it home with me. L told me to get the touch then sell it. That sounds tempting but I’ve been surviving quite badly without the company of music everywhere I go after the iPod classic died shortly after the VAIO did. I suspect the gadgets come to live after I’m away like in Toy Story. Anyway, after the iPod classic died, I told myself I needed to appreciate good things do come in small packages too; the nano would be an excellent companion at the gym.

iTouch

The iTouch however is just as bulky as the classic. However, getting rid of my iPhone is also on the cards, a touch would be a good replacement for it. So now, I’m in a dilemma, a touch or a nano? Crap.

iPad

The question I’m about to ask will show I’m no tech geek. What’s the difference between the iPad and the iTouch besides the most obvious – size? Now to the tech geeks who are reading this, please stop laughing. I suppose its only logical for me to get an iPad sometime in the future to solve my problem of mobility since I’ll be getting a desk top. Also, being bigger its definitely more functional than the touch. So maybe I should make do with the nano until the iPad is added to my collection and would be able to serve me just as the iPhone would just that this time it might be an iPhone and laptop combined; with games, something mobile to draft my thoughts and the internet.

Steve Jobs is not making apple users like me easy to get out of cold turkey. Its really not funny.

iPhone 4

The iPhone is showing signs of death after its 3rd birthday recently. The iPhone had served me well especially during my Europe trip with its game and internet so I really would not mind getting another as replacement. However, the iPhone has become so commonplace that it irritates me to the core. How balding men on the train can get so excited when scoring points in their games on iPhone. I wonder if it was to show off their apple.

Blackberry

Blackberry is the replacement I’m thinking of. Firstly because I know I’d be able to turn it to another colour I want. Yeah I know I’m sounding totally like a bimbo cause I place so much importance in a gadget’s aesthetic. Secondly, the bb has bbm to allow me to text my friends overseas at very low costs.

So should I be an apple fan through and through? Gosh. Decisions!!
